Parents of Kids with Disabilities: Section 504

What is Section 504?

Section 504 is a mandatory federal statute to ensure civil rights laws and educational benefits are adhered to for kids in public schools with learning disabilities and/or ADHD. In other words, it requires the needs of students with disabilities to be met as adequately as the needs of non-disabled kids.

Unfortunately, not all schools treat Section 504 the same way. For more information on Section 504, see the greatschools.org article “A parent’s guide to Section 504 in public schools.”
